ANCIENT CHURCH LYRICS: HISTORICAL SOURCE AND MUSICAL SIGNIFICANCE

This article scientifically analyzes the origin, structure, main types of ancient church tones, and their place in the history of European music. These tones were formed on the basis of the religious melodies of the medieval Catholic Church and played an important role in the development of today's tonal system. The unique interval structure and expressive capabilities of each tone are highlighted. The article is intended for researchers, composers, and students in the field of musicology
