This study examines the challenges students face when transitioning from long-
term "lessirovka" technique to short-term "ala prima" still life painting. Through practical
experiments with contrasting compositions of household objects, we demonstrate effective
methods for teaching color relationships, form contrast, and material textures. Results show that
preparatory short-term sketches significantly improve students' ability to capture essential
characteristics and maintain compositional integrity.
