In this regard, an urgent task of modern pharmacology is the search for and isolation of new urease inhibitors from natural sources, especially from microorganisms and plants producing biologically active compounds. Natural metabolites may have higher biocompatibility and selective activity, which makes them promising candidates for the development of new drugs

Abstract

Urea hydrolysis catalyzed by urease plays a key role in the pathogenesis of a number of bacterial infections, since urease is a virulence factor for microorganisms such as Helicobacter pylori, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella spp. and Pseudomonas spp. High urease activity of these bacteria contributes to the development of urinary tract infections and gastrointestinal tract diseases. In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the use of urease inhibitors as therapeutic agents for the treatment of infections associated with urease-producing microorganisms. However, most of the known urease inhibitors described in the literature have a number of significant limitations, including high toxicity, low specificity and insufficient efficacy in clinical settings.
