This article provides a comprehensive overview of the natural distribution areas, biological properties, ecological adaptability and pharmaceutical value of the saffron (Crocus sativus) plant. Saffron has long been valued as a medicinal and food product, and today it is included in modern pharmaceutical preparations. The active substances isolated from it - safranal, crocin and picrocrocin - have been scientifically studied as antidepressant, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory agents. The article also provides information on international drugs created on the basis of saffron and their practical application.
