Licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is one of the medicinal plants that has been widely used in folk medicine and modern medicine since ancient times. This article extensively covers the geographical distribution, biological and ecological properties, and pharmaceutical significance of licorice. The main active ingredients in licorice root - glycyrrhizin, flavonoids, and saponins - determine its expectorant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antiviral properties. The article also pays special attention to pharmaceutical preparations made from licorice, their uses, and precautions. The results of the study confirm the effectiveness of licorice in respiratory diseases, gastrointestinal tract, and immunity.
