This review paper examines Candida albicans, an opportunistic yeast-like fungus that is part of the normal human microflora and has the ability to become pathogenic when immune homeostasis is disrupted. Particular attention is paid to its role in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), where C. albicans can disrupt the integrity of the mucous barrier, form biofilms, activate inflammatory reactions, and modulate the immune response. It summarizes current understanding of the interaction of C. albicans with the intestinal microbiota, the mechanisms of its pathogenicity, and the impact on the systemic state of the body, including metabolic and immune disorders. It provides data on diagnostic approaches and therapeutic strategies. The paper is based on an analysis of relevant domestic and foreign sources.
