This article provides a comprehensive review of the protective role of the human microbiota against Candida albicans. Candida albicans is an opportunistic pathogen that is usually asymptomatic, but can cause invasive infections under certain conditions. A healthy microbiota is one of the main biological barriers that limits its growth. The article provides a scientific overview of the composition, functions, and interactions of the microbiota with Candida albicans. It also provides information on how dysbiosis caused by antibiotics, stress, and other factors can affect the development of Candida albicans infections.
