Spirulina is a type of cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) that grows naturally in saltwater oceans, lakes, and rivers. Spirulina cyanobacteria are rich in protein, vitamins, minerals, carotenoids, and antioxidants that are essential for human and animal consumption and protect cells from damage. Indeed, they produce many biologically active substances that have beneficial effects on human health, which are in high demand in the food industry. Thus, the biomass of Spirulina cyanobacteria contains several of its high-value compounds. In this study, the extraction of lipids from Spirulina maxima cells was examined.
