Abstract

This article reviews the scientific literature on sex-specific morphological and physiological changes in body composition during adolescence. It examines how the main components of body composition—muscle mass, fat mass, bone density, and basal metabolic rate—differ in boys and girls during puberty. The review highlights the biological basis of sexual dimorphism, drawing on empirical data from advanced research, particularly bioimpedance and DEXA methods.
