Abstract

This article provides a scientific and theoretical analysis of the medicinal properties of corn silk (Zea mays L., stigma maydis) and its uses in folk medicine practices documented in Uzbekistan. The study aims to systematize the phytochemical profile, likely pharmacological directions, and traditional preparation and administration patterns, while substantiating essential safety criteria. The methodology combines pharmacognosy and ethnopharmacology frameworks with critical literature appraisal, content analysis of recipe variability, and expert evaluation of use forms through a clinical rationale lens. The novelty lies in framing corn silk beyond its commonly emphasized diuretic role by linking folk applications to antioxidant and mild anti-inflammatory potential, and by highlighting the need for practical standardization of dosage, raw material quality, and precautionary measures to support safer integration into evidence-informed complementary care.
