Abstract

Strabismus in young children remains a pressing issue in pediatric ophthalmology and neurology, as it leads to impaired binocular vision, delayed visual development, and social maladjustment. In recent years, increasing attention has been paid to perinatal risk factors, including natal cervical spine injuries, which can impact the development of visual-motor functions. The purpose of the study was to investigate the role of natal cervical spine injuries in the development of strabismus in young children and to determine their significance in the formation of oculomotor disorders. Natal cervical spine injuries are one of the significant risk factors for the development of strabismus in young children and can influence the formation of oculomotor disorders. Instrumental research methods revealed signs of impaired cerebral hemodynamics in the vertebrobasilar basin in a significant number of children, which confirms the possible involvement of a vascular factor in the pathogenesis of oculomotor disorders. The results obtained indicate the need for a comprehensive examination of children with strabismus involving an ophthalmologist, neurologist, and orthopedist, including an assessment of the cervical spine and cerebral blood flow. Early diagnosis of natal cervical spine injuries and timely implementation of therapeutic and rehabilitation measures can contribute to reducing the severity of oculomotor disorders and improving the prognosis of visual functions in young children.
