Keywords:

Actinomycetes are gram-positive, filamentous (silk-like) bacteria that are abundant in soil and specialize in the production of metabolites, especially antibiotics. The most famous genus is Streptomyces, and since the 1950s, more than 70% of antibiotics have been derived from actinomycetes. They produce metabolites that have antibiotic, antifungal, antiparasitic, antibacterial, antiviral, and other pharmacological effects, and also produce immunosuppressive substances.
