DNA REPLICATION AND THE ROLE OF THIS PROCESS IN HEREDITY

Abstract

DNA replication is an important process that occurs before cell division. Cell division together with proliferation ensures the growth and renewal of various specialized cell types formed during embryonic development. Changes in the DNA replication program occur during development. Undifferentiated cells of the embryo show high replication rates and rapid proliferation, while more differentiated cells are characterized by reduced DNA synthesis and low proliferation rates. Thus, the DNA replication program must adapt to the specific characteristics of cells committed to different fates. Recent findings on the regulation of DNA synthesis in various cells open new perspectives for the development of effective and tailored therapies for the treatment of various diseases such as genetic disorders and cancer.
