Abstract

Microplastics are one of the most serious environmental
threats of the 21st century. This article examines the history of the problem of environmental
pollution with microplastics, the main stages of its study, as well as modern
research devoted to the detection of microplastics in aquatic ecosystems, soil,
atmosphere and in the human body. Particular attention is paid to the beginning of
microplastic research in Central Asia and Uzbekistan, where this issue has not yet been
sufficiently studied. An overview of the sources of microplastic pollution, its
consequences for the environment and possible strategies for reducing the negative
impact is presented. The results obtained confirm the need for further
research in the field of microplastic monitoring and the development of methods for its
elimination.
