IMPORTANCE OF ANTHOCYAN PIGMENTS IN PHYSIOLOGICAL PROCESSES IN PLANTS
Keywords:
anthocyanin, flavonoid, photoprotection, oxidative stress, environmental signal, abiotic stress, antioxidant.Abstract
Anthocyanin pigments play important roles in various stages of biological processes in plants. They have several functional roles, such as light absorption, photoprotection, antioxidant activity, temperature and stress tolerance, pollination, and seed dispersal. This article provides an in-depth review of the synthesis of anthocyanins, their physiological and ecological significance, and their roles in plant cells.
