This article covers the scientific and methodological foundations of the process of selecting young athletes for kayaking and canoeing. The study analyzes the theoretical aspects of sports selection, morphofunctional characteristics of the body of young athletes, indicators of physical and functional training. The importance of anthropometric dimensions, strength, endurance, speed and coordination qualities that are important for kayaking and canoeing is substantiated. It also shows the need to take into account biological age, the level of adaptation to sports, and individual development characteristics when selecting young athletes. The results of the study serve to improve the process of identifying, selecting and training talented young athletes for kayaking and canoeing, and make it possible to develop methodological recommendations for coaches and sports specialists.
