Abstract

In this study, the antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory activities of extracts from Berberis vulgaris, Zingiber officinale, Cinnamomum verum, Piper nigrum and Cuminum cyminum were evaluated in vitro. Pure laboratory strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans were used. Ethyl acetate served as the extraction solvent and the culture medium was optimized for each strain: Mueller-Hinton agar for S. aureus and Sabouraud dextrose agar for C. albicans. The antimicrobial activity was assessed using the agar well diffusion method and the anti-inflammatory activity was assessed based on human blood leukocyte assays. The results showed significant biological activity of all tested extracts, highlighting their potential as natural therapeutic agents.
