The heart of the Pamirs beats to the rhythm of the Pamir languages, which belong to the East Iranian branch of the Indo-European family. The Shugnan, Wakhan, Yazgulyam, Ishkashim, Munjan and Sarykol languages, although they have a similar grammatical structure and vocabulary, are represented by numerous dialects, which sometimes complicates mutual understanding between speakers. The Cyrillic script, created during the Soviet era, is not widely used. Kyrgyz language: The sonorous Kyrgyz language, belonging to the Kipchak group of the Turkic branch of the Uralic family, is the official language of the Kyrgyz Republic and is widely spoken in the region. Communication in Kyrgyz is carried out using the Cyrillic script. Tajik language: The Tajik language, part of the western branch of the Iranian group of the Indo-European family, is officially used in the Republic of Tajikistan and is widespread in the western part of the Pamirs. The Perso-Arabic alphabet is used for writing. Other languages: The language palette of the Pamirs is complemented by Russian, Uzbek, Chinese and other languages brought here by various ethnic groups. The influence of these languages on the linguistic situation of the region is assessed as insignificant.
